Our Roots
Dutch Growers is more than just a place to Buy Plants. Not that we don't love plants..but we have grown to become so much more!
Dutch Growers is a family. Three Generations of Van Duyvendyks have worked at Dutch, starting with Arie and Audrey Van Duyvendyk, who came to Canada in the 1950's. They worked tirelessly to build a business to support their family. They came to a new country, learned a new language and culture and worked, realy REALLY hard! Most importantly they instilled a passion for the industry of horticulture in every one of their children. The business they started has branched out and the scope has widened.
Tim and Karen Van Duyvendyk have started their own new venture, this time in Regina. Both Tim and Karen had been a part of Dutch Growers for many years. Tim literally grew up in the garden centre, tending plants from the time he was able to hold a watering can. Karen started as a greenhouse employee while earning her degree at the University of Saskatchewan.
Not unlike Arie and Audrey, Tim & Karen are raising their family in the business. Their children are often at the garden centre as their help is proving to be as valuable as that of their parents.
The garden centre has grown to include a year round Ladies Fashion department as well as an amazing Christmas and Holiday store in the winter months. dutch Growers is the only garden centre open 12 months of the year in the city of Regina.
And yes the plants....Dutch Growers proudly offers the provinces' most extensive collections of Annuals, Perennials, Trees, Shrubs, Roses and Tropical plant material.
Plants are and always will be the very heart of our operation. They are our passion.
In addition to running a retail operation Dutch Growers tries its best to offer a peaceful shopping experience, we love to host events and activities to better our community.
"Our approach to gardening can be summed up in three words - live, grow and give. Simply put that's what we are all about."
One of the Top 100 Independent Garden Centres in North America
We were recently chosen as one of Garden Center magazine's Top 100 Independent Garden Centers in 2018. We are the youngest garden centre winner, too!
What is Dutch Liberation Day?
Dutch Liberation Day is a National celebration of the liberation of the Netherlands by the Canadian troops at the end of World War 2.
Our parents, Audrey and Arire Van Duyvendyk, were some of the many Dutch liberated at that time.
In 2018, we celebrated on Saturday, May 5th, by taking donations for the veterans, and handing out Dutch treats and tulips as our way of thanking Canada and its military for their sacrifices during the war.
We encourage our customers to wear orange on Dutch Liberation Day.
